Laxey Christmas Market

Laxey Christmas Market

About

The twinkling lights of Laxey will shine brighter than ever as the 14th Annual Laxey Christmas Market returns on Saturday 22 and Sunday 23 November promising a weekend of festive cheer, community spirit, and seasonal magic. What began as a modest village event to raise funds for Laxey Working men’s Institute has grown into Laxey’s largest public gathering of the year, drawing thousands of visitors and becoming a cornerstone of the Island’s festive calendar.

Four Venues of Festive Wonder

This year’s market spans four unique locations, each offering their own charm:

  • Working Men’s Institute (upstairs & downstairs): The bustling heart of the market, featuring dozens of individual stalls, hot food and drinks and delicious home-made cakes.
  • Laxey Tram Station: A nostalgic stop in the historic station building with additional stalls as well as railway-themed gifts.
  • Christ Church: A serene space filled with more unique stalls.
  • NEW! Village Square Outdoor Market:  This new venue will have the atmosphere and fun of a traditional town square market and help promote Manx produce and many artisan traders.

Special Features & Festive Fun

  • Santa in the station: Father Christmas and his Elves will be coming to  visit in his “new location on the station”!  From 10 AM to 4 PM Sat/Sun
  • Live Entertainment: Onchan Silver Band will be performing seasonal favourites; plus all day festive music piped through the station.
  • Raffle Extravaganza: Our superb raffle features many quality prizes generously donated by stallholders—perfect for lucky winners and a great way to support the Institute with a draw each day.
  • Daily Variety: With different stalls each day, visitors are encouraged to return free for a second helping of festive magic

Extra attractions

  • Laxey’s Special Boutiques - JJ Ribbons, Ginger Giraffe and Whim Boutique will all be open to welcome visitors to browse their fabulous shops and hand-crafted gifts.
  • Laxey Mines Railway will be running their festive steam trains through the tunnel with fun characters on hand to add to the charm.
  • The Hodgson Loom Art gallery at the Laxey Woollen Mills will host local artists, with the opportunity for them to showcase their wares.
  • Manx Anti-Cancer will be holding its festive shop at the Heritage Information Centre on Mines Road on both days
  • Cooil Roi Sheltered Housing on Glen Road will be holding their annual market on Saturday 22nd from 12-4pm.

Arrive in Style

The Manx Electric Railway will be running Special Christmas tram services between Douglas and Laxey, adding a nostalgic sparkle to your journey. Visitors are strongly encouraged to arrive by tram or bus, as parking is free but limited. Even better—show your bus or tram ticket for free entry to the market at the Institute.

Many thanks to our wonderful volunteer Scouts for managing the parking.

Supporting a Historic Community Gem

The market is the biggest annual fundraiser for the Working Men’s Institute, a Manx-registered charity run entirely by volunteers. This cherished community facility, dating back to 1876, requires ongoing maintenance and care. Every pound raised helps us to keep the doors open so we can host community-based events and clubs such as- baby and toddler fun, fitness, yoga, ballet and a dog club, etc along with regular live music.

This market is more than just a festive event—it’s a celebration of Laxey’s heart and heritage. We’re proud to welcome everyone to experience the joy, generosity, and creativity that make our village so special.
