The Isle of Man is home to a wide range of still water locations, varying in size and depth. 

Each reservoir offers a charming contrast of scenery and landscape for visitors and residents to explore. Ideal for walking, fishing and other recreational activities, the majority of the reservoirs on the Isle of Man have ample parking and are regularly stocked with fish. 

With a wide range of reservoir fishing available on the Island, it provides a satisfying challenge for anglers looking to make a catch. Whilst wild brown trout can be found in all of the reservoirs, six of them are also stocked with rainbow trout on a regular basis between – March and October (Ballure, Clypse, Kerrowdhoo, Cringle, Sulby and West Baldwin).

The reservoirs on the Island vary greatly in size from the deep Sulby Reservoir (154 acres) to the lowest-lying Ballure(3.5 acres). So whether you are a keen angler or someone who wants to try it out, you’ll find a range of freshwater fishing options for you to explore. Fly fishing and spinning methods can be used on all of the Island’s reservoirs with the exception of the Clypse and Kerrowdhoo reservoirs, just north of Douglas, which are fly-only waters.  

Before fishing at any of the reservoirs on the Isle of Man, anglers should always check their licence is up to date and that they are aware of any restrictions – such as the size of catch and time of the year. Even if you’re not fishing, walkers should still consider the wildlife and natural vegetation surrounding the reservoirs and obey any instructions signposted.
