Manx Electric Railway with views of the rolling hills

About

Grading: Strenuous
Distance: 11.23 km / 7 miles

Start: Glen Mona Halt

Some quiet lane walking, a Neolithic tomb, a Quaker burial ground and a coastal footpath with stunning views, all rolled into one memorable walk.

Overlooking the parish of Maughold, Cashtal yn Ard (The Castle of the Heights) is one of the best ancient monuments on the Isle of Man. One of three Neolithic tombs, dating from around 2000 BC. It is the best preserved of them all and one of the largest of its kind in the British Isles.

Visit Maughold church yard to find the intricate Manx stone crosses and a obelisk memorial designed by famed artist and designer Archibald Knox for Manx writer Sir Hall Caine. Then join the coastal footpath along Maughold Brooghs for outstanding scenery before making your way to Ramsey.

Advice and Safety Information

The coastal section is steep and rocky in places. Please note that access to the foreshore is restricted at high tide (access available from road to Port e Vullen). Whilst walking along the footpaths please be farm aware, and keep your dog on a lead when near livestock.
