About

Ballaglea is an early 19th Century farmhouse extended to offer spacious accommodation. The house is set in 4 acres of mature gardens and paddocks and enjoys panoramic views over the adjacent countryside. Ballaglea is approximately 8 miles from the ferry port of Douglas, the Island’s capital and 4 miles from Castletown and Ronaldsway Airport. The location is central for most local attractions and the majority of the Island’s golf courses.

There are three guest rooms, two en-suite and another on the ground floor with separate bathroom. All are centrally heated, and have radio alarms, hairdryers and tea/coffee making facilities. One room is twin bedded and the other is a double/family room. Ironing facilities are available on request. The guest lounge is equipped with television, DVD player, video recorder and a stereo music centre, with a selection of DVD's and videos available for your entertainment. There is ample parking space and garaging for motorcycles.

A traditional cooked breakfast is served between 07.30 and 09.00 in the guest dining room. Early departure can be catered for by prior arrangement. Ballglea will endeavour to meet any special dietary requirements if notified in advance. Please Note: Ballglea do not serve evening meals but will be pleased to recommend a number of good quality restaurants and country pubs where a variety of food is available at reasonable prices.

We regret that dogs are not allowed in the house.

We are a no smoking establishment.

Map & Directions

Road Directions

At the exit from the ferry terminal is a roundabout; turn immediately left and there is another roundabout some 60 yards further on, where you turn left again and should then be facing a large swing bridge across the marina. Cross the bridge and turn right on the small roundabout on the other side. The marina will now be on your right and you then follow the road straight across the next two roundabouts, then keep straight on that road for a little over a mile to the next roundabout, after going under a railway bridge and travelling uphill past a school on your right. On reaching this roundabout you will find there are three lanes; take the left-hand and head for Castletown/Airport. Travel for about five miles, until you reach a lengthy decent into Ballasalla (a Mercedes car lot will be on your right as you reach the village)

When you arrive at Ballasalla there is a roundabout with a public house - The Whitestone – facing you. Take the second exit – (270 degrees) – and there will be another roundabout after 150 yards, with a small shop/Post Office on your right. Take the first exit - turning left - and travel for about ¾ of a mile, until you reach a crossroads with houses on 3 of the corners. Turn right here and you will now be on the "A3" to Foxdale/Peel/Ramsey road. Follow the road until you come out of a twisty dip and begin a fairly steep ascent. At the top of the assent the road levels off and you will find it is straight for as far as you can see but begins to rise uphill after about ½ mile. This is the Ballamodha Straight.

You will enter a 50 mph zone after passing a turning on your right and beginning the rise uphill. The limit drops to 40 mph as you approach a cluster of houses and an obscure crossroad. The speed limit increases back to 50 mph after a left hand sweep in the road, with a ruined cottage on the right of the bend. On exiting the 50 mph zone you will see a large house on your left. Slow down after this, as our entrance is about 100yards further on, on the left, with a stone walled entrance to the drive inscribed with "Ballaglea" on both wings in pretty large letters. Just follow the drive round to the front entrance to the house.
