Summer Evening Paired Relay Orienteering Event at Tynwald Arboretum, St John's

Friday Evening Orienteering 11th July 2025.

Come along with a friend or family member to form a team to take part in our new Relay Orienteering Event which is suitable for all ages.
• Team made up from at least 2 participants.
• 1 scorecard, 2 maps with different control flags to find.
• Find as many controls as a team in 1 hour!
• Mass START for first person in team.
• On return of first team member they pass the team scorecard to the second team member who starts their leg.
• Teams can be made up from the same gender, mixed gender or adult & youth.
• Activity suitable for Families, paired Individuals & Groups.
• Your choice to Walk, Jog or Run.
• Wear suitable clothing and footwear for weather conditions & time of year.
• Children must be under the supervision of an adult.
• Compass is optional, to assist with navigation.
• Presentation to winners of different catego

Registration time: 6:10pm - 6:50pm.
Mass START for first participant in team at 7:00pm.

Participants must return to the finish within 1 hour! All participants must report to the finish by 8:15pm at the latest.

Orienteering Maps supplied - Cost: Adult: £4.00. Youth under 18yrs: £1.50. Family (2 Adults & Children under 18yrs): £8.00 (max) Cash only payment.

Various Categories - Teams can consist of: male only / female only / youth only / male & female / male & youth / female & youth.

Registration, Start & Finish Area: Beside War Memorial in Tynwald Fair field, near St John's Church (registration signposted from car parking location & A1 road).

Event Activity –
Teams must be made up from a minimum of two participants. The team has 1 scorecard and 2 maps with different control flag locations marked on each map.
The first team member will get their map just before the Mass start to plan their leg of the course. The second team member will get their map after the first team member has left to plan their leg of the course. On return to the finish area the first team member hands over the team scorecard to the second team member who begins their leg of the event.
Teams have 1 hour to locate as many of the orange & white control flags marked on their map and to pin-punch their scorecard to prove that they have visited each location. Teams ideally should split the time equally between each pair. Participants can navigate to control flags in whatever order you choose, but remember they are penalised if the last team member returns late! Presentation to winners of different categories shortly after 8:10pm.
