About
Join a group of artists, musicians and students from Leeds Beckett & Liverpool John Moores Universities recording underwater sounds in Port Erin. The group invite you to them and award-winning sound recordist Chris Watson, known for his natural history work with David Attenborough, for an hour of recording at Port Erin. As part of their wider research project gathering underwater sounds from around the island to make available to the public, interested people are invited to join the team for a recording session at Port Erin. These will be on the morning of Chris Watson’s public talk at the Manx Museum in the evening.
We will provide all the kit: Tascam DR-40 sound recorder with sound card, headphones and hydrophone (underwater microphone). We will meet at a designated point to introduce the project, safety regulations and equipment. Whole event will last one-hour. We will share each participant’s recording with themselves. After that, we will listen to all recordings and make selections to be available to the public on the website.
Credits – chosen files will be titled with place, date, title and initials, e.g.: PORTERIN-MAY24-ALAN-LIMPETS, with a guide to the person’s full name on the website. We retain the right to use these recordings within our research and related presentations – we will provide consent forms to be completed to this effect. We may also use photographs taken during the event for website and social media use. Chosen recordings to be uploaded to: www.malcolmlowry.com.
To keep the groups small and allow everyone individual attention we will invite a small group of participants, over 18s only. This is not suitable for wheelchairs or those with impaired mobility and bringing dogs not advised. The event will have to be cancelled in the case of extreme weather.
Please email Alan Dunn on a.dunn@leedsbeckett.ac.uk by 5pm on Friday 26 April to register your interest, explaining briefly why you would like to participate as numbers are very limited and this is not a drop-in session
