Winter in the Isle of Man is something special, with the community coming together to celebrate festivities, cosy culture coming to the fore, and unspoilt nature dazzling in the colder months, there’s lots to enjoy. We’ve put together a guide of our favourite nature spots, events, and places to eat and drink on the Isle of Man this winter.
Get Out in Nature
Summerhill Glen is home to an array of beautiful lights that come on when it gets dark in the evenings. Follow the trickling stream and enjoy the sparkling lights and fairy doors for an enchanting evening with children or loved ones.
Milntown Gardens are a great place for a family wander, with their diverse array of flora and fauna, a pretty pond, and vibrant kitchen garden. Why not finish off your stroll with a warming drink and slice of cake at the Milntown Café.
Conrhenny Community Woodland is a great place for a wintry walk, with multiple walking and mountain bike trails, as well as scenic views over the east of the Island. The towering trees and crunching leaves underfoot provide a perfect backdrop for a crisp walk.
The Sound is a beautiful place to visit in every season and with waves crashing, seabirds calling and grey seals bobbing, it’s a dynamic scene in the winter months. If you’d prefer to watch nature unfold from a cosy vantage point, we highly recommend enjoying a specialty winter beverage at The Café at The Sound and watching the wintry scenes from the panoramic windows.
For the Kids
There’s an abundance of festive events for children this winter, with something to suit everyone.
The Island is well-known for its unique heritage railways, with these quaint attractions shining during the Christmas period. There’s the magical Polar Express Train Ride on the Steam Railway, the Groudle Glen Railways Santa Trains and Mince Pie Trains. All aboard for festive fun!
Children can also try their hand at making tasty treats with Biscuit Decorating with Santa or the Elf Academy Baking Workshop, which is catered towards tweens and teens. Alternatively, simply enjoy a Santa Tea at Milntown Café and Tynwald Mills, think fluffy scones, meringue snowmen, festive sandwiches and more, or head to the Dine with Father Christmas experience at Bradda Glen!
If watching a Christmas show appeals to your family, the Dick Whittington Pantomime at the stunning Gaiety Theatre shouldn't be missed, as well as the Alice in Wonderland pantomime at Peel Centenary Centre.
Other exciting Christmas events for young people include the quirky Isle of Man Christmas Tractor Run, Ice Skating at The Fun Farm, Christmas at Bertie's Farm and Christmas at the Home of Rest for Old Horses.

Indulge and Delight
The Isle of Man is home to numerous incredible establishments that make festive winter dining a true delight.
The Shed has an impeccable Christmas menu, including pots o’ pigs in blankets, festive hot choc bombs, nachos and paninis, whilst its sister company, The Gelato Shed, has Crimbo crumbles and festive gelatos galore.
Kiki Lounge has an impressive Christmas menu which puts a twist on classics like their mince pie spring rolls and their Jingle Martini.
Cafe 360s festive menu includes a banana brulee on pancakes, waffles, or french toast, alongside pulled pork specials, yorkshire pudding roast wraps and more!
Festive afternoon teas are available at The Dovecote Tearooms, The Creek Inn and The Comis Hotel.
Epic Sunday roasts are served at numerous restaurants across the Island! We’re particularly fond of the shredded Manx lamb at The Forge, the cinnamon butternut mash at The Shore Laxey, Smoky Sam’s BBQ pop-up roasts hosted at Kiki Lounge and Foraging Vintners, and the huge platefuls at Jak’s Bar & Smokehouse’s carvery.
