On Friday 7th September the Manx Electric Railway turns 125! The historic line first opened in 1893 from Derby Castle to Groudle.  To mark this special anniversary Isle of Man Transport hosts a celebration from 1-8 September 2018, to commemorate the legendary attraction.

Now connecting Douglas with Laxey and Ramsey in the north, this 17 mile narrow gauge railway, with original carriages, takes passengers on an extraordinary journey through countryside, glens and coast.  We have chosen 8 highlights over the big 8-day festival to make sure you have a visit to remember.

  1. Get in the Driving Seat  -  Saturday 1st September

Climb aboard the electric tram and try your hand at driving Winter Saloon No.22 between Laxey and Lewaigue. This looks to be a wonderful event and I wish I could be there.
Some of my families land was bought so that the line could be laid and my father travelled from Fairy cottage to school in Douglas in the early 1900s.
