Canaccord Sportive in aid of Rebecca House

Type:Active event

Canaccord Sportive in aid of Rebecca House

About

Annually for the past 14-years, the Ellan Vannin Cycling Club and Isle of Man Cycle Tours have organised a popular Sportive. This is a mass participation event which is designed to cater for all abilities and types of Cyclist, including the growing number of e-bikers. Pictures from previous editions are on our Facebook page at: https://www.facebook.com/iomcycletours

In 2024, this longstanding Sportive event will move from Ramsey to Douglas and be promoted as the Canaccord Sportive in aid of Rebecca House. It will consist of a choice of 3 courses; 40Km, 75Km and 100Km, with all starting and finishing at the Nunnery on Old Castletown Road, Douglas.

Online Entry is £40, (£20 for <16’s), but due to the generous sponsorship by Canaccord, plus the kind patronage of the Nunnery, it is guaranteed that 100% of your entry fee will go directly to Rebecca House.

Entry includes: Finisher’s Medal, electronic timing, energy bar, Cycling Bottle, photos on Facebook, a feed station on the route and a refreshment voucher for Tea/Coffee + cake at the finish

Entries are capped at 300 participants on a first-come, first-served basis.

Set against the stunning backdrop of the Nunnery estate, the event offers participants the chance to explore scenic routes and breathtaking landscapes while making a positive impact on the lives of those in need. Participants can choose from three routes tailored to different skill levels. These range from a mainly flat 40Km ride through to the 100Km course, which features over 2000m of climbing, including one of the toughest hills on the Island – the Beast of Glen Maye. Although it has just been beautifully re-surfaced by our friends in the Department of Infrastructure, it still has 25% ramps in places and is probably the toughest 2Km uphill you will find here on the Rock.

Throughout the event, riders will be supported by dedicated volunteers and an aid station offering refreshments and assistance.

There will also be children’s activities in the Nunnery grounds whilst the event is on as part of the Hospice’s Circus Month of Fun, so family members may enjoy the atmosphere at the start / finish, while participants are out on the course.

Participants may start anytime between 09:00 & 09:30, although slower riders for the longer distances are advised to go off as close to 09:00 as possible.

All participants under the age of 18 must submit a consent form completed by their parent/guardian on the day of the event. Parental Consent forms are available for download from the British Cycling website. In terms of participation, the shortest route is suitable for all ages and the 74Km route for competent riders in 14-16 year age bracket. The 100Km route, which has over 2000m of climbing is not recommended for under-16’s. PLEASE NOTERiders under the age of 16 must also be accompanied by a parent or guardian on the ride.

So, please join us for an exhilarating day of cycling and community spirit – whether you’re an avid cyclist or a beginner, this event promises to be a fun-filled day for all while supporting a really meaningful cause.
