About

Thie dy Vea means 'House of Life' in the Manx Gaelic language. We are a Christian Retreat House offering a warm welcome to all who are looking for a place of rest and refreshment.

We are based in Ballawattleworth House, a spacious victorian house located close to heart of Peel.

We offer 8 guest rooms, all named after some of the ancient keeills (chapels) on the Island.

ON THE GROUND FLOOR:

KEEILL WOIRREY is our ground-floor fully accessible twin-bedded room with en-suite accessible toilet and wet room with shower. One bed is a standard single - the other single is electrically-operated, with fully adjustable bed height, and raised head and foot areas. There is also a rise/recline electrically-operated armchair. This is a spacious, sunny room, ideal for a guest who needs a carer or who has mobility issues.

Both the entire ground floor of Thie Dy Vea, and the garden, are fully wheelchair accessible.

ON THE FIRST FLOOR:

KEEILL VAEL, LAG NY KEEILLEY, and CORRODY KEEILL are all twin bedded en-suite rooms (with shower). They're individually styled and carefully furnished so you can comfortably read or rest during the day - and have a good night's sleep too!

MAUGHOLD is a self-contained apartment within the house itself, equipped for a self-catering stay for two people.
It has a sleeping area with double bed, sofa seating, dining table for 2 and a kitchen area with sink, fridge, microwave, kettle and all crockery with basic kitchen equipment. The en-suite bathroom has a bath with over-bath shower.

ON THE SECOND FLOOR:

BALLAWOODS, CABBAL PHERICK and St ADAMNAN are our rooms with character! Each has a double bed and is comfortably furnished. Please note, each one has sloping ceilings and beams which limit the headroom in some areas.
These rooms are not en-suite, but each has a wash basin. Close to all three rooms on the top floor there is a bathroom with bath and an over-bath hand-held shower. For top floor guests who prefer a shower there is a separate shower room on the First Floor.

Please note that the house does not have a lift.

GUEST LOUNGE AND APOTHECARY. The big lounge at the front of the house offers a place to relax and unwind. This sunny room has a small conservatory at one end. The apothecary is a separate front room which the Thie dy Vea community uses as its prayer space for our regular rhythm of prayer. Guests are welcome to enjoy its gentle atmosphere of peace.

GARDEN The house is set back from the road with a large lawn at the front and at the rear a spacious walled garden offering a haven of peace and tranquillity.

DRYING ROOM. We offer guests the use of a drying room, especially useful for coats, waterproofs and hiking boots.

RETREATS We offer a programme of retreats and other events throughout the year; details can be found in the 'what's on' section of our website.
