Tourist Act
The Isle of Man is unique and operates under statutory regulations in relation to all tourist accommodation businesses by regulating all registrations and independent assessments. As a legal requirement under the Tourist Act 1975, all tourist accommodation businesses must be officially registered. The act applies to all types of visitor accommodation, from hotels and guest houses to campsites and TT homestay and includes if you are interested in hosting sites such as Airbnb.
Visitor accommodation will also need to meet certain regulatory requirements, which can be viewed on our accommodation page.
Equality Act
The Equality Act 2017 makes it unlawful for a service provider to treat another person less favourably than they would treat another because of one of the characteristics protected by the Equality Act. Those characteristics are sexual orientation, sex, transgender, race, religion or belief, age or disability. It is also unlawful to treat another person unfavourably because of their pregnancy or maternity or for a reason connected to a person’s disability. The Act also requires a service provider to take positive steps to ensure that disabled people can access their services.
This site will also help to detail any new legal or statutory policies that impact on the Visitor Economy sector where details of new legislation will be accessible to assist you.
