Employee Relocation Incentive

The Department for Enterprise's Employee Relocation Incentive (ERI) under the Financial Assistance Scheme (FAS) extends to certain roles within the tourism and hospitality sectors, benefitting Visit Isle of Man's trade partners. 

The Scheme aims to encourage workforce expansion and recognises the additional costs incurred by a business in recruiting and relocating off-Island employees where it has not been possible to recruit locally.

What does this mean? What is the criteria? How do I apply?

What does this mean?

If your business is looking to recruit the following roles from off-Island, it may be eligible for a grant of up to 20% of the relocating employee(s) net salary for the first 12 months. This is capped at £10,000 per employee and paid once the employee has been engaged for 12 months.

Tourism and hospitality, roles restricted to -

  • Head Chef

  • Sous Chef

  • Head Housekeeper

  • Food and Beverage Manager

  • Revenue Manager

  • General Hotel Manager


What is the criteria?

The business
  • Must have a permanent establishment on the Island;

  • Must be an eligible business under the Enterprise Act 2008 (Eligible Businesses) Regulations 2018*;

  • Be up-to-date un respect of Income Tax, VAT and National Insurance;

  • Must be expanding its workforce on the Island

The job
  • Must offer a minimum starting salary of £25,000;

  • Must constitute permanent, regular employment. 

The employee
  • Must be directly employed by the business;

  • Must work predominantly on the Island; 

  • Must become resident on the Island for income tax purposes.

Please note that the Department cannot accept retrospective applications. The employer must submit the application in advance of employment.
