Visiting the Isle of Man - key things to know

Douglas River Glass Walk

Type:Walking Route

Douglas River Glass Walk

Distance: 2.5 miles

Grading: Leisurely

Terrain: Grass and part surfaced

Beginning in the heights of the Injebreck Reservoir, the River Glass flows down the Manx countryside to the outskirts of Douglas before it joins with the River Dhoo and continues out to sea. On this walk, you can follow its path down to the Island's capital and see where the two converge to form the River Douglas from which the capital takes its name.

Begin in the car park beside the River Glass and venture over to the picturesque Douglas Golf Club, whose extensive fairways amongst the trees of the glen were designed in 1926 by the world-famous Dr Alister MacKenzie who also designed the Augusta National in Atlanta, Georgia.

From here, travel up the River Dhoo as you enter the well-established footpath into the glen before crossing the river and doubling back alongside the Old Castletown Road where you will find the Nunnery Estate that will lead you back through the trees to your starting point.

Advice and Safety Information

Some areas of the glen may be muddy. Care must be taken whilst walking along certain parts of the footpaths along route, as uneven terrain is a common feature. Whilst walking along the footpaths, please be aware of your surroundings and keep your dog on a lead when near livestock.

Leisurely - walks for reasonably fit people with at least a little country walking experience. The route will included some unsurfaced rural paths and tracks. Walking boots and suitable clothing are recommended.
