From traditional festivals and turnip carving, to spooky trains and murder mystery nights, our Hop Tu Naa celebrations are nothing short of extraordinary. If you're visiting the Island this Half Term, join our fellow Islanders in celebrating this unique festival where ghosts, ghouls and witches are hidden around every corner.

Here's our top five things to see and do this Hop Tu Naa:

1. Turn up for turnips

Become part of the Hop Tu Naa Festival at Cregneash Village, a family-friendly event bursting with Manx traditions. Carve your very own turnip, join the Kippercaillie folk band for live music and create herbal spells with Jinny the Witch in her cottage.

2. Dare to enter the spooky woods

Enter the woods at Milntown for one of two spooktacular events...or if you're really wanting to see how far you can test your fear why not do both? Nightmare Nights and Scarefest are two eerily entertaining attractions, suitable for all those who appreciate a sterling fright.

3. Put your carving skills to the test

If you thought pumpkins were hard to carve, try a turnip! Yes, we said a turnip! As opposed to pumpkins, Manx folk carve turnips (or 'moots' as they're also known) and use them as lanterns throughout Hop Tu Naa...a popular, yet slightly bizarre, tradition of the festival.

4. Full steam ahead into family-friendly fun

All aboard our Spooky Steam Railway! Whether it be a Murder Mystery themed evening or a spooky lunch train for all the family, don't miss out on these chilling experiences this Hop Tu Naa.

5. Follow the bubbles to Jinny's lair

Visit Guts Grave in the hope of finding Jinny the Witch in her lair. However, you've been warned! Jinny will be joined by her Grim Reaper guards and a surprise visit from Frankenstein and her other spooky friends might be in order...

She’s back once again with the ill behaviour! The one and only renegade master herself, Jinny the Witch! Follow the bubbles that will be floating down Strand Street from midday on Saturday 26th October. Once you locate the source (Guttery Gable) you will find Jinny’s lair! Her lair will be guarded by two Grim Reapers so make sure that you know the password to gain entry. Strangely, Jinny is feeling generous and giving away some lovely sweets to anyone who is brave enough to visit her.
