The Department for Enterprise has re-launched the 2021 Manx Internship Programme, which provides short-term internship opportunities for students and interested individuals looking for work experience across different industries and sectors of the Manx economy.
Potential interns – why take part in the internship programme?

Gain valuable experience in the workplace, building soft skills and knowledge in your chosen area.

Explore pathways to careers and give yourself a competitive edge in the recruitment market.

Receive a monthly wage equivalent to the National Living Wage under this Programme, which as at May 2021 is £10.19 per hour.

Internship placements will be up to 35 hours per week lasting for an average of eight weeks.
Businesses / Third Sector / Other Organisations – why take part?

Access to knowledgeable and talented individuals with expertise and interest in specific subject areas.

Completion of specific research or projects post COVID-19.

Support local talent and build relationships for future recruitment opportunities.

Funding support for wage costs. As with the previous extension of the Internship Programme the following caveats for hosts (businesses, third sector and other organisations) remain in place:

New hosts that have not previously participated in the Programme will receive full wage support for their interns eight week placement.

Hosts who have previously participated in the Programme and have since offered their intern full-time employment will receive full wage support for a new intern.

Hosts who have previously participated in the Programme, but not offered their intern full-time employment will receive 70% of funding towards wage support for a new internship placement for another individual.

Government organisations will be required to meet full wage costs which will be invoiced at the end of the placement.

What sort of work is this suitable for?
Projects could include Market Research, Digital Marketing planning, Event Marketing, Manufacturing Concepts and Designs, Setting up IT systems, Environmental audits, Design of new Products, Diversification opportunity planning, Communications planning, Setting up Websites, Social Media Audits, Graphic Design projects, Digital Transformation and new ways of working.
What do we need to supply as a business?
Businesses will need to provide information on the scope and aims of each project and provide a line manager for interns for the duration of their placement.
Who can take part?
Individuals who are not currently employed can take part. Interns must be resident in the Isle of Man and not a close relative* of the Host organisation.
*Close relative for this purpose is defined as: a parent, parent-in-law, son, son-in-law, daughter, daughter-in-law, stepparent, step-son, step-daughter, brother, sister, or the spouse or civil partner
For businesses – any business sector will be supported, however if you are a Government organisation you will be required to meet wage costs equivalent to the National Living Wage which will be invoiced at the end of the placement and not a close relative of the Employer.
