About

Smeale Coastal Area is one of the Island’s darkest sites with near to none light pollution. There are totally uninterrupted horizon views from South West to North East – it’s the perfect place to admire the stars and catch site of the Northern Lights.

Smeale Coastal Area is one of 26 registered Dark Sky Discovery Sites on the Isle of Man. With the help of Interpretation Boards on site, stargazers can fully enjoy the stunning views on offer in the Manx skies.

Advice and Safety:

The stargazing site is a large flat area, with adequate parking for cars and telescopes adjacent.

Road Directions

Smeale is far north of the Island. Take the A18 to Parliament Square in Ramsey. Continue onto the A9 Andreas Road, over the roundabout  until you reach the A10 coast road. Take a left onto the coast road, then take a right at the white house on the crossroads. Follow the road to reach the beach.
