Sea Fishing

If you’re heading to the Isle of Man for a fishing trip, make sure to try your hand at sea fishing in the Irish Sea. With the choice to cast-off from shore or by boat there are more than 95 miles of beautiful coastline to take advantage of.

Between mid-April to the end of November the sea is filled with a variety of fish species which can be caught all around the Island throughout the warmer months.

Common species such as Pollack, Bass, Tope, Cuckoo Wrasse, Grey Mullet and Mackerel among plenty of other species can be caught along the shore from rock marks, breakwaters, harbours and beaches.

Chartering your own boat is a great way to access the Island’s best sea-fishing spots. Try hiring a specially adapted kayak, which includes rod holders and tackle compartments, or take a fishing charter from either Peel in the west or Port Erin in the south.

Boat trips are a great opportunity to spot a number of larger marine animals that can be found around the Island’s coast during the warmer months, including, seals, dolphins, porpoises, basking sharks and even whales.

You’ll find good rock fishing on the southern and eastern coasts at Perwick Bay in Port St Mary, Langness near Castletown and Douglas Head in the east. The rocky northern coasts are also hotspots for tope and bass.

The Island also hosts its own Fishing Festivals between June and July. The Ramsey Angling Festival is a great introduction to shore angling on the Isle of Man with the chance to win great prizes! This Festival includes specimen days and a ‘dry run night’ where anglers can discuss tactics, exchange tales and have a few drinks.

The Mannin Angling Club Festival runs for a week and is based in the south of the Island. The festival includes both small boat fishing competition and shore fishing competitions. Fishing at this time of year can produce many species, mainly Dogfish, Whiting and Flatfish but also specimen Bull Huss and Tope.
