Visit Isle of Man is proud to announce the launch of the new Isle of Man edition of the award-winning ‘Wild Guide’ series, marking a significant milestone in the Island’s promotion as a leading destination for nature-based and sustainable travel.
The ‘Wild Guide’ series, produced by Wild Things Publishing, is known for uncovering the most beautiful and lesser-known parts of Britain and Ireland, and is widely regarded as the go-to compendium for visitors in search of slow, sustainable and sensory-rich experiences.
Written by Isle of Man ambassador Andy North, founder of local outdoor adventure company Happy Explorer, in collaboration with Visit Isle of Man, this immersive guidebook invites readers to explore the Isle of Man through a wilder lens, discovering the hidden corners of the Island and championing its connection to nature. Featuring stunning photography, detailed maps, over 400 co-ordinates to places to explore, eat and sleep, and engaging travel writing, it’s the perfect guide for wild adventures, family explorations and ultimate escapes.
This partnership comes at a pivotal time as Visit Isle of Man continues to implement its strategic vision to grow the Island’s visitor economy through sustainability-led tourism, as outlined in its ten-year visitor economy strategy, ‘Our Island, Our Future’. As the only whole nation UNESCO Biosphere Reserve, the Isle of Man is uniquely positioned to lead in nature-first tourism, encouraging mindful travel that respects and nurtures the environment, while supporting local culture and communities.
Andy North, author of Wild Guide: Isle of Man, commented:
‘It’s been an absolute delight to write a book about the place I’m proud to call home. The Isle of Man is a truly remarkable place, steeped in ancient history and rich with natural beauty. From sea caves and fossil beaches to standing stones and secret waterfalls, it’s an Island that never stops surprising you.
‘With this guide, I wanted to shine a light on the Island’s wildest corners and help both locals and visitors experience the sense of wonder I feel every day – whether that’s watching dolphins from a cliff edge, scrambling through a gorge, or falling asleep under a sky full of stars.’
Deborah Heather, CEO of Visit Isle of Man, added:
‘We’re thrilled to partner with Andy North and the Wild Guide team on this beautiful celebration of the Isle of Man. This collaboration is an important step in our strategy to position the Island as a leading eco-tourism destination in the British Isles and worldwide.
‘The guide captures the raw, authentic beauty and deep heritage of our whole Biosphere nation, and will help us to reach new, experience-driven audiences who are seeking meaningful, sustainable adventures. Whether it’s wild swimming, coastal foraging or exploring ancient Norse ruins, the Isle of Man offers an extraordinary escape like no other, and this guide is the perfect invitation.’
