As the birth place of former Road Race World Champion and Tour de France star, Mark Cavendish MBE, and 2012 Olympic gold medallist Peter Kennaugh MBE, the Isle of Man is rapidly gaining a great reputation as a location for cycling, both on and off-road.

If you are coming to the Island via boat, you can easily take your bike with you on the ferry. However, if you’re flying or you would rather not bring your own bike, you can easily hire one while you’re here.

With a range of hire shops covering the Island you will be sure of getting the right bike to suit your cycling requirements and most places will provide a delivery and collection service.

Erin Bike Hut has a fleet of Orbea Avant road bikes and Orbea MX40 mountain bikes in a variety of sizes to suit all shapes and sizes.

Outdoors Ramsey is an outdoor activity shop which also provides mountain bikes for hire, all fitted with intermediate tyres to give you the smoothness on the road along with the grip for off-road.

Powerwheels offer a Cycling Tour with a minibus transfer to the best of the Islands mountain bike trails perfect for small groups – road bikes and cycle guide available too.

Take a tour of the Island’s capital, Douglas, for a gentle ride along Marine Drive, the promenade, Groudle Glen and a visit to the world famous TT Grandstand. Or how about a visit to Peel and the west to see the ruins of Peel Castle, the internment camps of Knockaloe, the legacy of Viking rule at St John’s and find out how Peel was linked with the sinking of the Lusitania by the Germans in WW1.

For something more challenging, take a full day tour of the South of the Island or why not experience the thrill of getting down and dirty in the country on an off-road tour?
