The South

The South

An adventure in the south of the Island awaits... Glorious beaches, fascinating heritage and impressive walking trails can be discovered in the south of the Isle of Man in this one day itinerary...

 The South

Stop 1 - Derby Haven and Langness Nature Walk

Cute wee coo 🐮

A post shared by Voirrey Horne (@voirreyh) on

The Langness peninsula accommodates the beautiful secluded cove of Derbyhaven and the iconic Langness Lighthouse. There are several walking routes which incoporate the Lighthouse and main headland - if you're lucky, you might spot the harbour porpoises and dolphins that frequent these waters!

The headland is also home to Herring Tower and the hidden Provider Stone, which stands near the tower on the coast as a memorial to the Provider vessel that was wrecked at Langness in 1853...

Further along the peninsula is Derbyhaven Bay, a great spot for keen windsurfers and scuba diving enthusiasts! In the bay, you will also find a further secluded island which is a bird sanctuary and home to the ruins of two ancient buildings; St Michael's Chapel and Derby Fort - both also perfect for Dark Skies nights.

Stop 2 - Hidden Fairy Doors, Balley Cashtal Beg

Explore Balley Cashtal Beg, which is Manx Gaelic for 'Little Castletown', and see if you can find where the 'Little People' live! There are over 70 bright and colourful fairy doors to find; discover Bowling Green Pixies, Carnival Fairies, Seafarers and many more! Collect your map leaflets, free of charge, from the Town Hall, Castletown Steam Railway Station, the Bowling Green Cafe, Craftworks studio, or many other local businesses and begin your adventure! Alternatively you can view the maps online here

Stop 3 - Craftworks Studio

If you are looking for family friendly fun, or simply looking for somewhere to escape into a world of imagination and creativity, Craftworks Studio is the answer! Craftworks, a paint-your-own pottery studio situated in the heart of Castletown, is home to an extensive range of bisque to pick and chose from. Enjoy a cup of tea, while you and your love ones get your paint brushes out!

Final Stop - Secret Pizza and Foraging Vintners Craft Winery

Secret Pizza is a micro restaurant located in the heart of Castletown that oozes a street food vibe, renowned for its signature wood-fired pizzas - all using local ingredients and produce. With communal seating, heaters, blankets, homemade cocktails, craft lager and weekend music - Secret Pizza is the perfect Autumn hideaway to enjoy with friends and loved ones. Why not finish the night at Foraging Vintners in Port Erin - look out for the large pink doors and enjoy a home grown tipple in their boutique style Parlour Bar or outside terrace (they have blankets!), which also boasts stunning coastal views.
