For a journey back in time, the Isle of Man’s Steam Railway, Manx Electric Railway and Snaefell Mountain Railway are a fun way to explore the Island’s impressive landscape and heritage sites.

Journey around some of the most important ancient monuments and heritage attractions whilst taking in the beautiful Manx scenery and extensive coast.

The Isle of Man boasts three heritage railways (with seasonal timetables) which will transport you to your chosen destination in style. It's possible to see the majority of the Island by travelling on the impressive network of railways powered by steam and electricity. As many of the heritage attractions are located close to the railway stops, it is an easy and exciting way to indulge in the Isle of Man’s colourful history.

The Isle of Man Steam Railway allows you to experience the grandeur of travelling between Douglas and the south of the Island on a Victorian railway perfectly frozen in time. It is the longest narrow gauge steam line in Britain that still uses its original locomotives and carriages which will carry you through the charming countryside between the Island’s capital and a range of destinations in the south.

Or for an unforgettable journey along the east coast of the Island, the Manx Electric Railway lets you explore some of the Island’s most stunning glens and coastal areas, as well as bringing you into Laxey to see the world’s largest working waterwheel.

Continuing on from Laxey, you can take the Snaefell Mountain Railway to the highest point on the Isle of Man. At 621 metres above sea level, Snaefell offers breath-taking, panoramic views where you can catch a glimpse of England, Ireland, Scotland, Wales, the Isle of Man and the kingdoms of heaven and the sea on a clear day.

Tickets and timetables are available from main bus and railway stations and the Welcome Centre located at the Sea Terminal.
