Manx Coastal Trail

Manx Coastal Trail

The Manx coastline is brimming with wide sweeping bays, dramatic cliff top wonders, stunning sea views, quaint seaside towns and abundant wildlife.

To discover and experience this coastal combination, follow the Manx Coastal Trail four day itinerary.

Day One

Offering a variety of heritage attractions, glorious beaches and excellent coastal walking trails, no trip to the Isle of Man is complete without a visit to the beautiful south. Begin your day exploring the wonders of Fort Island discovering the Norse-Celtic Chapel and Fort present. Enjoy some of the best scenic views on offer casting over the west and north-east of the Isle of Man.

Continue on to the ancient capital of Mann and uncover the medieval castle, Castle Rushen located in the heart of the town. Explore the castle’s vast grounds and unearth the many stories that lie within its walls.

Make the most of your afternoon and drive to Port Erin, a great place to explore the fantastic walking trails in the south of the Island. Try weaving your way around the coastline to The Sound, where you’ll be greeted with stunning views out to sea, as well as the opportunity to spot seals which bask on the small rocky islet near to the Calf of Man.

Day Two

Start your second day by exploring the west coast by visiting the secluded bay of Niarbyl, one of the Islands most stunning and most important geological sites. Enjoy following some of the fantastic walking trails here, before continuing on to Peel, aptly named “Sunset City”. Home to an extensive modern marina and the magnificent ruins of Peel Castle, you’ll find plenty to keep you busy throughout the afternoon.

Day Three

Travel North to Close Sartfield Nature Reserve, for the chance to sight peregrine falcons circling overhead and wild wallabies within the grasslands. Another spot worth visiting is the Point of Ayre –the Island’s most northerly tip. Here, you’ll find the Ayres Nature Reserve, with miles of golden sand dunes and a pristine stretch of beach, perfect for that leisurely morning stroll. Make sure to explore the Island’s oldest operational lighthouse located nearby.

Travel south to the town of Ramsey, the second largest town on Island, set against the magnificent backdrop of the North Barrule hills. Enjoy the impressive working harbour, masses of sand and shingle beach and one of the most impressive recreational spaces the island has to offer.

Day Four

On your final day of the trail, visit two bustling towns along the east coast including, Laxey and Douglas. Visit the famous Laxey Wheel and enjoy the spectacular views from the top, before making your way down to Douglas and exploring the Victorian promenade and horse tramway. Along the way, why not hop on the Manx Electric Railway and enjoy the panoramic views out to sea.
