Overlooking beautiful countryside the cottages and farmhouse can be found in peaceful, unspoilt country surroundings with wonderful panoramic views, both out to sea and over the mountains, these five charming self catering cottages and farmhouse offer you superb cosy retreats at any time of year and offer a wonderful base for exploring the island.

The cottages, one and two bedrooms have been carefully converted from the splendid range of stone barns and outbuildings which retain tremendous original charm and character, whilst offering every modern convenience and comfort.  Ballachrink Farmhouse which is an outstanding detached house is fully equipped to accommodate eight persons. 

Laxey, with its quaint harbour, colour washed stone houses, lofty cliffs and great sweep of seashore, is just a mile or so down the lane.  It offers many attractions with its history, charm and character.  There are mnay fine countryside and coastal walks nearby with opprtuntities at almost every turn to observe the glorious unspoilt beauty of the Manx countryside.

The electric tram also stops in the village of Laxey and offers a very good service throughout the season; take a trip to Douglas or Ramsey a lovely way to travel.  It is also the starting point for the Snaefell mountain railway.  The famous Lady Isabella waterwheel can also be found in Laxey and is known as the largest working waterwheel in the world.

Road Directions

Directions to Ballachrink Farm Cottages from the Ferry 

After leaving the ferry continue along the promenade, keeping the sea on your right, for about 1.5 miles turn left up Summerhill (A11) to the roundabout at the top of the hill.  Take the second exit (A2) and continue to Laxey.  Drive straight through the village, crossing over two sets of electric tram lines and you will come to a small crossroads.  Turn left into Ballaragh Road (B11), it is signposted.  Follow the road up into the countryside for about 1 mile and the entrance to the cottages can be found on the left hand side clearly signposted.  Proceed up the private drive and you will find the cottages straight ahead. 

Directions to Ballachrink Farm Cottages from the Airport 

After leaving the airport, you will come to a roundabout, turn right and continue on this road (A5) through Ballasalla.  Turn right at the roundabout outside Beautiful Blooms flower shop.  Continue on this road to Douglas until you reach the double roundabout at Quaterbridge.  At the first roundabout turn right, but keep in the left lane and turn immediately left up the hill.  Continue through the next two sets of traffic lights, passing the TT grandstand on your right.  Continue on this straight road through Onchan Village and onto Laxey Village.  Drive straight through the village, crossing over two sets of electric tram lines and you will come to a small crossroads.  Turn left into Ballaragh Road (B11), it is signposted.  Follow the road up into the countryside for about 1 mile and the entrance to the cottages can be found on the left hand side clearly signposted.  Proceed up the private drive and you will find the cottages straight ahead. 

Public Transport Directions

The public transport is very good and most reliable.  The bus runs along the main road (A2) every 30 minutes.  The walk from the cottages to the main road is approximately 20 minutes, however there is a bus that stops of the bottom of the drive 3 times a day.

You can also board the Electric Tram from Laxey Village which will take you along the east coast to Ramsey or to Douglas.  Go Explore tickets can be obtained from the airport or the Welcome Centre located at the ferry terminal.  This allows unlimited travel on all scheduled rail the steam train, horse trams and bus services for 1, 3, 5 or 7 days.  It’s a great way to explore the Island.
