Snaefell Mountain Railway

About

This unique Victorian enterprise, which is around five miles long, has been in operation since 1895 and is the only electric mountain railway in the British Isles.

You can start your journey on the Manx Electric Railway from Douglas or Ramsey to the pretty village of Laxey on the east coast - then board the Mountain Railway winding its way to the Island's only mountain, Snaefell’s summit, where breathtaking views await.

Peaked at 2,036 feet above sea level, you may be able to see some, or all, of the Seven Kingdoms - England, Ireland, Wales, Scotland, the Isle of Man and the kingdoms of heaven and the sea.

Guide Prices

A great value way to use the heritage transport network is by the Go Explore card. Trade rates available.

These cards entitle your clients to unlimited travel on any scheduled bus and rail services for 1, 3, 5, or 7 consecutive days. The card will activate from the first time your clients tap in on one of our buses, trains or trams, and that will count as their first day of travel.

If you are visiting Manx National Heritage attractions across the Island the Go Explore Heritage 5 day card is for you. This includes unlimited travel on bus and railways and unlimited access to all Manx National Heritage attractions for five days. Please check timetables and opening times of attractions.

Go Cards are available online (www.gotravel.im) or from the Welcome Centre in Douglas Sea Terminal and main stations. Individual tickets are available from all manned stations, and from the Guard onboard the train. Please see our website www.rail.im for current ticket options and fares.
