As an Island steeped in Viking and maritime heritage, no itinerary that includes the Irish Sea is complete without dropping anchor in the Isle of Man.
The Island has long been a favourite port of call for cruise liners, with a choice of anchorages on our picturesque coastline, from the sweeping Victorian promenade of Douglas to a dock alongside the ancient fortress, Peel Castle.
Once the seat of power for the seafaring Kingdom of Mann and the Isles, the Isle of Man's Viking legacy lives on through ancient sites and treasured collections in our museums which can all be discovered in the excellent range of shore excursions. A number of landmarks are testimony to the rich maritime heritage, including the Tower of Refuge built by the founder of the Royal National Lifeboat Institution, Sir William Hilary.
The Island is internationally recognised as a UNESCO Biosphere attributing to its outstanding natural environment, including dramatic coastal footpaths, hidden golden bays, wooden glens and valleys which are a special place for people and wildlife.
A popular way to experience the contrasting scenery is on a Victorian railway journey or for something more exhilarating, passengers can experience a Trike Tour around the world famous TT racing circuit.
A call to the Isle of Man wouldn't be complete without sampling a taste of our home-grown produce. The Island's burgeoning artisan food movement has seen a wide range of establishments open in recent times with many serving Manx delicacies. Local distilleries, craft beer breweries, craft wine production and more complement a wonderful variety of accredited Taste eateries throughout the Island. Manx Loaghtan Lamb, Queenies, hot smoked salmon and smoked kippers to name a few can be supplied for an on-board evening meal experience or in an organised food market.
