Manx Panorama Tour

About

Departing from Douglas, drive through the south-east of the island, passing over the Fairy Bridge where it is considered bad luck to pass by without greeting the “little people”.  Arrive in Castletown which traces its origins back to 1090, and holds true as one of the oldest towns in the British Isles. Its narrow streets and small fishing cottages prove this ancient past at every corner. Here you can enjoy some free time to explore this delightful town and view the fabulous Castle Rushen, which is one of the finest examples in the British Isles of a medieval castle.

Leaving Castletown, head for the southern tip of the island and enjoy the picturesque bay at Port Erin, before travelling along the western coast to Peel. Here you can spend some time to enjoy the pretty town, with its lovely harbour and Victorian beach front promenade, overlooked by its fine Viking-era castle and many quaint narrow streets lined with fishermen’s cottages. Peel also claims to be one of the world’s smallest cities due to its Cathedral, which provides its own fascinating stories told through artefacts inside and the newly-designed interactive Gardens outside which tell the story of Christianity in Mann from the early 5th century to the modern day.

From Peel, travel inland to St Johns, the home of Tynwald Hill, or Cronk-y-Keeillown as it is known in Manx. The hill is the location of world’s oldest continuous parliamentary assembly, which has run continuously since 979 AD. The conical mound is made up of soil from all 17 different parishes on Mann.  After a photo stop, return to the ship passing through the beautiful central valley area of the Island known as the Plains of Heaven.
