You may be aware of an operation lead by the Isle of Man Constabulary named, Operation Strongbox. This operation has been running since the Island’s borders reopened and the Constabulary have been monitoring the ports, freight and passengers to deal with any increase in drug trafficking related offences.

Thus far, the operation has proved successful but we want to go a step further. With the hospitality trade starting to rebuild, you may also be in a position to identify people who may be involved in drug trafficking who have slipped through our borders.

The Constabulary is appealing to you to report any unusual activity or behaviour that appears suspicious.

What is potentially suspicious activity?

  • Last minute cash bookings
  • Extensions of bookings – maybe on a day-to-day basis
  • Young people travelling with an adult that do not appear to be family
  • Nervous or evasive guests
  • Visitor attitudes – not necessarily being interested in the island/ hotel and what it has to offer.
  • Overly concerned with privacy such as refusal of room access
  • Suspected drug paraphernalia found in rooms/bins
  • Packages being dropped off for guests
  • Guests having little to no belongings with them

What can you do?

  • Encourage all staff to alert the duty manager of any suspicious behaviour or unusual activity
  • Contact your local police station – quoting you have an OPERATION STRONGBOX report.
