West Baldwin (Injebreck) Reservoir

Type:Lake / Reservoir

West Baldwin (Injebreck) Reservoir

About

Surface area 41.5 acres.  Maximum depth 26 metres. Map ref: SC 359 837. Postcode for satnav: IM4 5EU.

This picturesque reservoir, also known locally as Injebreck, is located on the site of an old village, the remains of which can be seen when the water levels are very low. The reservoir offers high quality stocked rainbow trout from 2lb upwards into double figures. The reservoir is stocked between March and October on a regular basis. An Isle of Man Government Reservoir Licence is required to fish this reservoir.

Fishing is possible from the dam wall and the majority of the east and west banks, although some stretches are fairly overgrown.  You may be lucky enough to encounter one of the wild brown trout that reside in the reservoir.   When water levels are high, you can take advantage of three angling platforms on the west bank, one of which is accessible to wheelchair users (a key is required for the ramp gate, which also accesses the disabled users’ car park at Cringle) .

Disabled access: Disabled anglers can be issued a key to the disabled users’ fishing platform  either by Manx Utilities tel. (01624) 687687 or at DEFA headquarters, Thie Slieau Whallian, St Johns tel.(01624) 685857). Proof of eligibility and a small deposit is required.

Parking: Available on the road alongside the reservoir wall and off-road in the adjacent Colden forestry plantation

Season Information: In summer (10th March – 31st Oct.) there is a four fish bag limit (two for a concessionary season licence) while in winter there is a two fish limit for all licence holders. Barbless hooks must be used in winter. The reservoir is closed to fishing from 1st February to 9th March (inclusive).

Dark Skies

West Baldwin Reservoir car park is one of 26 registered Dark Sky Discovery Sites on the Isle of Man. With the help of Interpretation Boards on site, stargazers can fully enjoy the stunning views on offer in the Manx skies.

Advice and Safety:

The stargazing site is a large flat area surrounded by fences and walls. The walls are low and the reservoir is close by over the wall.
