  • Isle of Man TT 2019: Packages starting from just £151 per person

OFFICIAL TRAVEL PARTNER FOR THE ISLE OF MAN TT!

Book for TT 2019 with the Isle of Man’s official travel provider. TT 2019 dates: Saturday 25th May to Friday 7th June 2019 (Senior Race day). Book your ferry, flight and accommodation with VisitIOM.co.uk , a secure local website run by an official TT travel agency on the Isle of Man. Your TT holiday package booking is financially protected by ABTA and ATOL.

The TT Races (which stands for Tourist Trophy Races) began in 1907 and is a world renowned motorbike race on the Isle of Man, with all the thrills that can only truly be appreciated in person. Bikes fly by spectators with such jaw-dropping speed that it will leave you lost for words. The fastest speed recorded on the TT is 206 mph in 2015 by Kawasaki rider James Hillier on his Ninja H2R. In 2018 Peter Hickman recorded the fastest ever lap on the Mountain course with a speed of 132.806 mph on Smiths BMW.

Running over 2 weeks, with the last week in May for practice and the first week in June for racing, the Tourist Trophy Races form the major part of the Isle of Man TT Festival. Held on the Snaefell Mountain course, a closed road circuit, riders have competed to complete a number of the 37.73 mile laps since 1907 ranging from sea level to over 1300 feet.

The TT week includes 9 races covering vehicles from traditional race bikes through to sidecars and, since 2010, has included the "TT Zero" race which replaced the TTXGP race. These have the goal of racing without using carbon fuels and to have zero toxic/noxious emissions.

The highlight of the TT Races is the Senior TT which runs, weather permitting, on the Friday of race week for the Maruis de Mouzilly St.Mars trophy. Running for 6 laps the race record is a staggering 1 hour 45 minutes and 20.394 seconds for the 236.38 mile race distance.

With average lap speeds of just under 132 mph this is not a spectator sport for the faint hearted and, with huge numbers visiting for the TT Festival each year, booking well in advance is highly recommended.

  • Manx Telecom Parish Walk 2019: Packages starting from just £129 per person

The Manx Telecom sponsored Parish Walk event will be held on Saturday 22nd and Sunday 23rd June 2019. It’s an 85 mile walking race that takes in all 17 parish churches on the Isle of Man. The first Parish Walk took place as a challenge between neighbours over 100 years ago and was a major event for the early years of the last century. It died out and was revived in 1960 when the modern Parish Walk adopted the route that we now recognise. Since then the race has grown in size and prominence and has become the largest mass-participation sporting event on the Island. It now attracts over 1,500 walkers annually, all of whom hope to become a Parish Walk finisher by completing the course in 24 hours or less.

The race starts at the NSC in Douglas and winds its way around the south of the Island before heading north and finishing back in Douglas on the seafront promenade. The record holders is Richard Gerrard in an astonishing time of 14 hours, 40 minutes and 8 seconds set in 2015. Most entrants are hoping to reach one of the intermediary check in points at the earlier churches and every walker receives a certificate stating the distance walked and time taken.

Visit IOM's handy travel packages are ideal for anyone travelling over to take part in the event - offering comfortable ferry or air travel from a choice of ports in the UK and Ireland, choose to stay for a long weekend or why not extend your break to give yourself time to recover in the beautiful surroundings of the Isle of Man after the walk?

  • Southern 100 2019: Packages starting from just £175 per person

The first Southern ‘100’ Road Race meeting held in 1955 was described as an ambitious three race programme, 350cc, 250cc and 500cc races, the latter a 100-mile race won by Liverpudlian Terry Shepherd at 78.26mph on his Norton.

Last year 2018, Dean Harrison riding a Silicone Engineering 1000cc Kawasaki took the Solo Championship Race at a speed of 112.712mph for the second time.

In fact, the Bradford man dominated two of the other three Superbike races, with Dean Harrison also securing a double in the Supersport classes during the meeting.

Rising stars of road racing, Rob Hodson, Paul Gartland and Adam McLean each took their maiden International race victories at the 2018 ‘friendly races’.

In the intervening sixty-two years, many future British and World Champions - riders of the calibre of Bob McIntyre, Phil Read, John Hartle, Ron Langston, Selwyn Griffiths, Con Law, Brian Reid, Kenny Harrison, Joey Dunlop, Dave Leach, Phillip McCallen, Jason Griffiths, Bob Jackson, Robert Dunlop, Ian Lougher, Guy Martin, Cameron Donald, Ryan Farquhar, Michael & William Dunlop and Dean Harrison have ‘cut their teeth’ around the 4.25-mile Billown course in the south of the Island.

Sidecars were introduced into the race programme in 1962 and from the early days the ‘cream of the charioteers’ have provided the unique thrilling action that only the three-wheel crews can, again TT winners and world Champions have graced the meeting, from Charlie Freeman to the 2016 Sidecar Champions, Tim Reeves and Patrick Farrance, making history during the Sidecar Championship race when on the sixth lap of the eight laps race no less than three crews broke the 100mph lap barrier for the first time, all in one second of each other! Ben & Tom Birchall were first, the Tim Reeves & Patrick Farrance, followed by John Holden & Andy Winkle, with the ‘record’ being finally set by Tim & Patrick at 100.749mph. Tim Reeves with Mark Wilkes back in the chair regained the Sidecar Championship title in 2018.

Joey Dunlop became ‘Master of Billown’ taking no less than forty-two victories, including six Solo Championships during his years of racing on the Southside circuit.

Four action packed days the Steam Packet sponsored Southern ‘100’, followed by the ‘unique’ Open Air Prize Presentation in Castletown Square really adds a special atmosphere to what has become known over the decades as ‘the friendly races.’

  • Festival of Motorcycling 2019: Packages starting from just £138 per person

When most people think of the Isle of Man they think of Motorbikes. And when most people think of motorbikes on the Island they think of the annual TT festival. But outside of that traditional event there are plenty of other opportunities to indulge your interest in bikes during a Manx Holiday.

The Festival of Motorcycling, which happens between August and September, is a prime time to indulge your biking addiction without the packed crowds of the TT. The festival runs over several days and gives a range of events to enjoy.

The Classic 2 Day Trial and the Classic TT are ideal events to enjoy classic motorcycles and witness how the race was run through the years, as well as the VMCC rally.

In the North of the Island there is also the Festival of Jurby to visit and enjoy, rounding off events and meaning, no matter where you choose to stay during your visit, there is plenty to do nearby.

The other advantage of the Festival is that, as the Island is quieter during this period than the TT, there is more opportunity to pick and choose your accommodation, from premium hotels based in the centre of Douglas through to more relaxed B&B locations in hidden spots outside the capital.
