Thie Shey is situated in a quiet area of Port Erin close to all amenities. Guests are assured of very high standards of personal attention and assistance to enjoy all that the Isle of Man has to offer. Whether you are interested in scenic walking, cycling, wildlife, golf, history or leisure activities on (or under) the sea, they are all easily accessible on foot, by local bus or vintage steam train (March -October). Alternatively, relax on the beach, the promenade overlooking the bay or our own suntrap patio. 

The conservatory, surrounded by our beautiful garden, is the setting for breakfast or a place to plan your Isle of Man adventure. If you prefer to leave your car at home, Thie Shey's team will be happy to pick you up from the airport or ferry terminal. No supplement for single occupancy.

  • Fishing - The jetties, breakwater and rocks of Port Erin are popular with fishermen
  • Indoor pool - An indoor pool is located 5 minutes walk away in the Cherry Orchard
  • Swimming pool - An indoor pool is located 5 minutes walk away in the Cherry Orchard
  • Tennis court - Breagle Glen is about 15 minutes walk and offers tennis courts, crazy golf and bowls.
  • Water sports facilities - 7th Wave sailing and activities centre is based in Port Erin and the horse-shoe bay is an ideal place for sailing and kayaking. There is a diving centre based in Port St Mary that often dives in Port Erin bay. The Isle of Man currently has 6 Marine Protected Areas. The oldest is Port Erin, which was established in 1989 and is recognised world-wide for its success. This makes it a fabulous location for diving.

Road Directions

By car - from the ferry terminal at Douglas - Signposts to look for initially are “Castletown & the South” followed by “Port Erin”. 

1. At the exit to the ferry terminal turn first left at the roundabout.

2. At the next roundabout take the first left.

3. Straight on at the next roundabout and over the bridge then turn right at the roundabout.

4. Follow the road along the marina and go straight ahead at the next 2 roundabouts.

5. Follow the road to the next roundabout then turn first left onto the A5. Carry on along this road (don’t forget to say “Hello” to the fairies at Fairy Bridge).

6. At the roundabout in Ballasalla, turn first left, then straight on at the 2 roundabouts passing the airport.

7. At the next 2 roundabouts, turn right. You are still on the A5 and will now see signs for “Port Erin”.

8. Go straight on at the traffic lights and head towards the coast.

9. Follow the coast until you are almost at the end of the large bay then take a right fork for “Port Erin”.

10. At the next roundabout go straight on (known locally as “Four Roads”).

11. Half way between this roundabout and the sea (ignoring the minor side roads), turn right into Ballafesson Road*.

12. Take the second left into Bay View Road and the second right into Ballaneale Avenue.

13. Thornhill Close is the first left and Thie Shey is the sixth house on the right hand side. You are welcome to use the drive.

*If you miss Ballafesson Road or would prefer to get your bearings in Port Erin, carry straight on to the seafront. You will pass the railway station and also see some of our local shops. If you turn right along the promenade you will get a good view of the beach, the Mull and Bradda Head. Just before the road starts to climb turn right onto Bay View Road. You will pass our well-stocked supermarket on your right. Ignore the minor side roads and turn left just before the bus shelter, into Ballaneale Avenue. Thornhill Close is the first left and Thie Shey is the sixth house on the right hand side. You are welcome to use the drive.

By car from the airport.

There are 2 exits and 2 roundabouts onto the A5. Signposts to look for are initially “Castletown & the South” followed by “Port Erin”. Turn left at the roundabout to exit the airport. Once you have completely past the airport then follow the directions from 7. above.

Public Transport Directions

Bus from the ferry terminal. Bus numbers 1 and 2 both come to Port Erin. There are bus shelters on Lord Street. From the main passenger terminal exit, Lord Street is the left fork (rather than heading onto the Promenade). There are pedestrian crossings. The bus stop is approximately 200 metres.

Bus from the airport. Bus numbers 1 and 2 both come to Port Erin. The airport operates a one-way system for buses so please look out for buses 1 or 2 heading for Port Erin via Castletown rather than Douglas. The stop is to the left as you exit the airport.

From the bus stop to Thie Shey

Bus number 1 comes into Port Erin along Ballafesson Road and the nearest stop is opposite Bay View Road. Walk down Bay View Road and take the second right into Ballaneale Avenue (just beyond the bus shelter). Thornhill Close is the first left and Thie Shey is the sixth house on the right hand side.

Bus number 2 comes into Port Erin along the coast road and terminates at Bridson Street (opposite the Cherry Orchard). Walk along Bridson Street keeping the car park for the supermarket on your left. At the end, turn right onto Bay View Road. Take the next left up the side road Harrison Street (the road sign is behind you). When you reach the doggy bin, turn right through the short-cut path. Continue straight on to Thornhill close. Thie Shey is the second house on the left going down the road.
