About

The Byre is a luxury one bedroomed, self catering stone cottage sleeping two people. Located in the beautiful Santon Valley it is secluded and sits in two acres of parkland garden facing south west.


The Byre has a large kitchen and large living room, vaulted ceilings and is modern build although looks traditional (it works!)

All the accommodation is on the ground floor, is spacious and has level access throughout the the cottage; there is disabled access and a modern smoke and fire alarm system. It is centrally heated. The doorways are wide and the bathroom has a walk in power shower.


Although the bed is KingSize - it is zip and link to provide two singles if preferred.There is a sofa bed in the sitting room which can accommodate two people by arrangement.

There is a smart TV with DVD player and docking station. Free Wifi is included.

This is a perfect location for walkers and cyclists, outdoor enthusiasts and adventurers!

  • Disabled Accessibility - THE BYRE AT BALLAVALE BARNS ACCESSIBILITY STATEMENT We aim to make The Byre at Ballavale Barns as accessible as possible. We are always keen to know how we can improve in any way, so if you have any suggestions please do let us know. ASSISTANCE DOGS Whereas we do not normally accept pets and dogs, we are happy to discuss your particular needs on an individual basis. We DO have our OWN dogs on the premises. We would by arrangement with you, welcome guide dogs, hearing dogs and other recognised assistance dogs. WHEELCHAIR USERS The Byre is fully accessible for wheelchair users. The Byre is located on the ground floor and has full external access through two doorways - one very close to a parking space (5 m) and the kitchen double doors (7 m from parking). There is free parking at the Byre. If you use a Shopmobility electric wheelchair please call us and provide dimensions, so that we might advise you more accurately. PEOPLE WITH REDUCED MOBILITY The Byre is accessible through three doors. One is not suitable for reduced mobility, but two are. You can also borrow a wheelchair free of charge from us when you arrive, simply call us in advance and let us know your requirements. BATHROOM, KITCHEN AND WASHING FACILITIES The Byre has a large walk in bathroom and toilet (all on the ground floor) with a walk in power shower unit. A shower seat is available free of charge and on request. The kitchen units, cooker and hob unit, is of accessible height. There is a front loaded washing machine. ACCESS FOR BUGGIES Buggies are welcomed at the Byre and we have a single travel cot available. All but the widest double buggies will have full access to the Byre. We have a baby high chair and a baby gate that you can borrow free of charge. PEOPLE WHO ARE BLIND OR WHO HAVE SOME SIGHT LOSS We do not have particular dedicated facilities for those of you who may be visually impaired. Guide dogs are welcome and the Byre is located on the ground floor with easy access between rooms. PEOPLE WHO ARE DEAF OR WHO HAVE SOME HEARING LOSS We do not have particular dedicated facilities for those of you who may have hearing impairment, although the Byre is a very quiet and peaceful place with not too much background noise, only the singing of the birds and the occasional steam train. We welcome hearing dogs. PARTICULAR REQUIREMENTS If you have any particular requirements then please do ask us.   • Accept children (Minimum age) - There is a sofa bed at the Byre and we have a travel cot available. We would however, respectfully suggest a discussion with us, as we are in the country and the Byre may not be suitable for small children.

Leisure Facilities

  • Access to golf course - There are two 18 hole Golf courses within easy reach of the Byre, both of who accept guests. Green fees are not unreasonable.
  • Arrangements for riding/pony trekking - Arrangements can be made for horse riding and ponytrecking.
  • Cycle hire - We have an arrangement with a local bike hire shop and a garage for storage.
  • Fishing - We are close to the sea for rock fishing. We can recommend boat trips. Fresh water licenses are available from the Government website www.gov.im We are 1/2 an hours drive from some great beach fishing.
  • Gym - We have a fully equipped Gym on site which can be used by arrangement. Our son is a professional rugby player!
  • Health/Fitness/ Beauty Facilities - We can provide introductions to hairdressers and beauty therapists, some of whom will visit if requested, or for special occasions.

The Byre is located off Ballavale Road which runs between the main Castletown and old Castletown road.

In the country, yet close to the airport and Douglas and 5 minutes stroll fmo the Steam railway halt at Santon.

Public Transport Directions

Its good (but not necessary) to have your own car.

Close to the main Douglas Airport Bus route (10 minutes walk) and close to the Steam railway halt at Santon (five minutes walk).

2 minutes by taxi or car from Douglas and 12 minutes form the Airport, we are ideally placed for every holiday and liesure activity on the Island.
