Guest Access

The Lodge is self contained and separate from the main house. It is not a lodge in the traditional sense, but is a detached annex next to the main house, Hillsdene, where we live with our two children and small dog Rosie.

Interaction with Guests

The Lodge has its own entrance and is completely private, quiet and is not overlooked by the garden or house. However you may come into contact with us on the driveway or in the garden as you come and go, and as we go about our daily routines. We respect your right to privacy on your holiday, but if you would like to chat we are more than happy to stop and do so! We love our Island and will be happy to help you out with where is best to go and what to do during your stay. We are usually around to welcome you personally but if we are not we will send you details to access the Lodge.

The Neighbourhood

We are on the outskirts of Douglas yet within easy walking and driving distance of attractions and shops. While we are on Quartebridge Road which can get busy (for the Isle of Man!) the Lodge is set well back from the road and is quiet and peaceful. A range of amenities is situated close by on Woodbourne Road, a short 10 minute walk or drive away, where you will find a chemist, grocery shops, local pubs, and several take away food shops. The Lodge is within easy access of Douglas town centre, which comprises of all the usual high street shops, and a range of restaurants, wine bars and pubs.

Getting Around

There is a bus stop five minutes’ walk away, which gives you access to the major bus routes around the Island as well as buses into and out of Douglas. We have free secure parking for one car.

Map & Directions

Road Directions

Please don't rely on sat nav or google maps as these often take you the wrong way.  To reach Bishop's Lodge on Quarterbridge Road from the Ferry terminal you need to turn left at the small roundabout immediately as you come out of the terminal and straight over/ bear slightly to the right on the next, larger roundabout with the Police Station on the right and a row of bus stops on the left.

Follow this road (Lord Street) up the hill and through three sets of traffic lights. When you are on the flat again this is Peel Road, keep going straight on, through another set of traffic lights until you pass Macdonalds and the Firestation on the left and the road separates into three lanes coming up to Quarterbridge Roundabout.

Get into the right lane and turn right up Quarterbridge Road. If you come from the airport, it’s best to get a taxi as there is no bus route directly past the house and it’s a bit of a walk up the hill with bags.

If you hire a car, coming from the airport stay in the left lane as you approach Quarterbridge and indicate right, keep in the left lane approaching the second roundabout and then take the left turning up Quarterbridge Road.

Please note there are no signs for the Lodge on the road, you need to look for the house name Hillsdene. As you come up Quarterbridge Road from the roundabout, we are the next driveway on the right after the turning for Devonshire Road.

If you get to Alexander Drive you have gone too far! The driveway has red tarmac with a stone wall with the house name on it, and there are wooden gates, which will be open for you.
