Northern Wow Walk
A stunning walk which starts on the A2 coast road in Ramsey, taking in five summits over 1,000 feet, including two of the Island’s highest summits. The distinct ridge of North Barrule is a wonder to walk over, with fine views of the Corrany Valley, Maughold and back towards the northern plain. Following the ridge, the walk ends at the Island’s highest point, Snaefell Mountain at 2,036 feet above sea level where you’ll be treated to 360 views if you choose a clear day.
As well as the Summit Café, The Victory Café which is based by The Bungalow at the Snaefell Mountain Railway crossing will provide a warm welcoming reward and refreshment!

Terrain: Mostly clear footpaths with some open moorland that is marshy in places.
Taking the footpath to Ballure Reservoir will lead you to a picturesque open area surrounded by a magical stretch of woodland and pretty reservoir that that is welcome spot for fly and spin-fishing. Continuing on the path alongside the reservoir wall, head up through the forest to the Rhowin (Hibernia) Road, take a left along this road and then head right until you reach the Dreamlang. Make your way through a couple of fields to a kissing gate. From here it is all open moorland but there is a clear path all the way to the summit of North Barrule. Head south on the very clearly marked path that goes all the way along this spectacular ridge taking in North Barrule, Park Lewellyn, Beinn Rein and Clagh Ouyr. Once you reach the summit of Clagh Ouyr, you have a short descent to the black hut on the mountain road TT course before you start your ascent to the highest summit, Snaefell Mountain. On a clear day ‘seven kingdoms’ can be seen from the top; the Isle of Man, England, Ireland, Scotland, Wales and Heaven and Manannan (or the sea). You will take the short descent to the bungalow on the mountain road where you can indulge in one of the famous pies at the Victory Café or take a tram ride back into Laxey.

> Keep dogs under control, in sight and on a lead near livestock. Dogs must be kept on a lead when walking off the paths in breeding bird season (1st April – 31st July).
