The Sugarloaf cafe

About

The Sugarloaf is a community focused café in Port St Mary, a fishing village in the south of the Isle of Man. We aim to be a great place to eat, relax and enjoy home cooked food in a warm and friendly environment.

We have created an atmosphere of the classic “coffee shop” offering a wide range of homemade cakes served with artisan coffee and tea. We aim to use as much local produce from what is available on our beautiful Island.

Our team will welcome you with a happy smile and you will be able to enjoy our tasty gourmet sandwiches, homemade cakes, soups and many other tasty treats.

The original cafe and bakehouse was built in 1902 and called Cafe St Mary. It operated as Coole’s Cafe for the middle part of last century and then became Good Life, a greengrocers and plant shop. It then became a haberdashers called Patchwork which converted into a cafe of the same name in the nineties. The cafe was taken over in 2011 by Rich & Adrienne Ashcroft who expanded the cafe to its present size

In early 2019, the cafe was bought by me, Nick and my mother, Debbie. We decided to rename the cafe to reflect the start of our new venture. The name Sugarloaf Cafe was eventually chosen to reflect our local identity. The Sugarloaf is the name of the stack near the Chasms and can be seen when walking along the beautiful coastline from Port St. Mary to The Sound. Our logo depicts the Sugarloaf rock.
