Black Dog Oven

Black Dog Oven

The Black Dog is a mighty wood-fired oven.  It is housed in an old green horse box making it an all-terrain event kitchen, which pops up at festivals, events and private functions around the Isle of Man to serve fresh, predominently local, wood-fired food.  Black Dog pizzas are the most popular choice, showcasing high quality local ingrediants such as Ballakelly Farm sausages and Close Leece Farm chorizo.  The dough is 100% Laxey Glen Mills flour, proved for a minimum of 24hrs and hand-stretched on site for our patient customers.  We take this opportunity to have a natter and get to know them!  Pizzas are cooked at over 350 degrees meaning it takes only minutes to bake into a thin crispy bubbling hot pizza meal.  Yum. Other options include seafood, slow-cooked meats and fast cooked skewers, as well as various bread accompanyments.

The name comes from the Moddey Dhoo, the infamous Black Dog of Peel Castle.  Over time, perhaps unwisely, our foods have taken on dog-themed names such as 'Salty Dog', 'Wild Dog', 'Waif' and 'Stray'.  Rest assured, there is no local dog amongst our ingredients!
