Start & Finish: Silverdale Glen Car Park (+different return options)

A short and leisurely riverside walk for all ages, ideal for children to discover the joys of walking with play stops and family friendly attractions along the way. After sampling the delights of Silverdale Glen with its water-powered Victorian Carousel, playground, boating lake and café, take the flat and easy walk along the river to Monks' Bridge on the edge of Ballasalla. Allow yourself some time to experience Monkey Buisness at Rushen Abbey or discover the ruins and tranquil gardens.

Alternatively, follow the river onto Castletown with its picturesque harbour, many Manx National Heritage sites including the great medieval Castle Rushen, Nautical Museum and choice of eateries in the town. Return back to Silverdale glen car park, by following the river back to the starting location or catch one of the many bus services to Silverdale Glen.

Advice and Safety Information

Some areas of the glen may be muddy. Care must be taken whilst walking along certain parts of the footpaths along route, as uneven terrain is a common feature. Whilst walking along the footpaths, please be farm aware, and keep your dog on a lead when near livestock.

Leisurely - walks for reasonably fit people with at least a little country walking experience. The route will included some unsurfaced rural paths and tracks. Walking boots and suitable clothing are recommended.
