Crown Green Bowling Festivals
The Isle of Man has been a popular destination for thousands of crown green bowlers since the first bowling tournament took place in 1921.
Overview
The Island plays host to two crown green bowling festivals, between June 17th and 21st 2013 and September 2nd to 6th 2013, which are recognised as the best in the UK bowling calendar.
Over the years the festivals have grown from strength to strength and include new and innovative competitions as well as the highest prize pot of any bowling festival.
Competitions include those for men and women, mixed pairs and tourism and consolation competitions. The festival is also structured so that even if players lose every game they can still play for four of the five days - a great way to ensure your trip to the Island is not wasted if play doesn’t go your way!
Douglas Bowling Club (Villa Marina) have organised a competition to mark the club’s 125th Anniversary in 2013. This will take place on Friday 21st at Nobles Park, following the Bowls Festival presentations and conclude on Saturday 22nd June at the Villa Marina Bowling Green. It is anticipated that the finals will be finished around 4pm on Saturday. An entry form is available below.
Locations
There are four main venues used for the festivals – Noble’s Park, Finch Hill and the Villa Marina in Douglas and Onchan Park.
All four are located within a four mile radius of one another so getting from one green to another is easy.
Entry
Festival entry costs £10 per person.
The closing date for applications for the June festival has been extended to Thursday 16th May 2013.
The closing date for applications for the September festival is 29 July 2013.
