Getting Around the Island

Whether you choose to hire a car, take a taxi, travel on the extensive bus network or step back in time and hop aboard the Victorian rail networks, you’ll find getting around the Island easy and most importantly cost effective.

Buses

The Isle of Man has an extensive bus network - Bus Vannin – which serves the whole of the Island on a regular basis including Ronaldsway Airport and the Sea Terminal in Douglas.

A late night bus service operates on Friday and Saturday evenings which serves all major towns.

Multi-journey tickets will help you travel around the Island and make the most out of your journey. Saver tickets allow unlimited travel on scheduled bus services and Explorer tickets allow unlimited travel on all scheduled railway services, the Douglas Horse Trams, and most bus services.

Heritage Explorer tickets also allow unlimited travel on all scheduled railway services, the Douglas Horse Trams and most bus services, as well as all free access to all Manx National Heritage sites.

Tickets and timetables are available from main bus and railway stations and the Welcome Centre at the Sea Terminal.

Railways

The Isle of Man boasts three heritage railways – the Manx Electric Railway, Steam Railway and Snaefell Mountain Railway – which will transport you to your chosen destination in style.

Car Hire

If you want to see the Island at your own pace why not hire a car and take to the open roads?

The majority of car hire companies are based at Ronaldsway Airport and some companies will deliver cars to the Sea Terminal. Whether you are visiting for a day, a week or on an extended trip, you’ll find a great selection of models and sizes to meet your needs.

If you want to hire a car during your visit you will be required to present a full, clean diving licence. Satellite navigation systems and children’s car seats are available to hire.

Car parking is widely available around the Isle of Man. You can park for free in many areas if you display a parking disc, which will be included in your hire car, and there are also pay and display car parks located around the towns.

Taxi

For ease and convenience why not hail a taxi? There are taxi ranks located outside Ronaldsway Airport and the Sea Terminal and in the Island’s capital Douglas.

Alternatively you can telephone for a taxi with many firms operating a 24 hour all Island service.
