Department of Tourism and Leisure Tourism Division

The Department of Tourism and Leisure is split into three main Divisions – Tourism, Service Delivery and Public Transport. The Tourism Division’s main function is to develop and encourage tourism to optimise economic and social benefit to the Isle of Man.

There were 324,137 tourist visitors in the Isle of Man in 2007

These are broken down as follows: -

PERIOD VISITORS IN PAID ACCOMMODATION (PVPA's)

Period visitors staying in paid accommodation are defined as people visiting the Isle of Man and staying in paid accommodation for at least one night (excluding business people). These people are regarded as the main tourist category, and following are some statistics relating to this type of visitor.

TOURISM DIVISION STATISTICS

(1) Including expenditure on travel to and from the Island an estimated £113.7 million was spent by 324,137 visitors in 2007, an average of almost £351 each.

(2) Average expenditure by PVPA's was estimated at £415, around £74.30 per day

(3) The figure for VFR's was £267 which equates to £40.30 per day

(4) Estimated expenditure of Business Visitors was £397 or £104 per day

(5) Day Visitors spent an average of £148 each on trips to the Island

(6) Average Length of stay (Excl Day Visits) was 5.5 nights
