Groudle Glen

About

Only two and a half miles north of Douglas is the Groudle Glen. It is of a deep, and in places rocky nature, with a lively bubbling stream running through its length. Excellent specimens of beech grow in the upper section whilst lower down pines and larch are more abundant. A small water wheel is situated in the lower glen. An attraction in the glen is the minature railway, run by enthusiasts which operates seasonally.

Further down the glen, the miniature Groudle Glen Railway run by local enthusiasts operates on certain days throughout the year. The line curls around the headland to a small cove where the former operators of the glen kept Californian sea lions as an attraction.

This glen has four entrances, one at the Whitebridge on the main Onchan to Laxey road, one on the coast road at the tram stop next to the restaurant, one around the corner which is the entrance to Lhen Coan and the last one is from the beach.
