2010 MANX GRAND PRIX 21st AUGUST - 3rd SEPTEMBER

Manx Grand Prix

The races began in 1923 started by the Manx Motorcycle Club; the race was originally named the 'Amateur TT' and used the TT Mountain Course over 5 laps. Raced by non professionals, but the term 'Amateur' really meant that the rider and stock machine had no manufactures support or reward. The Amateur TT was renamed to the Manx Grand Prix in 1930 and from then on it would only take competitors domiciled in the British Isles, which had not taken part in other international races. In 1967, the Manx Grand Prix became a National event.

The rules were relaxed for 2008. Previously, anyone who had competed in the TT was barred from entering an MGP event, Manx Grand Prixapart from the Classic races. It was also expected those who had won an MGP would move on to the TT. The Manx Motor Cycle Club announced previous winners of Newcomers, Classic, Lightweight and Ultra Lightweight MGP Races, and riders who have previously competed in the TT races, will be eligible to enter the Lightweight and Ultra Lightweight Races in 2010.

There are conditions. Riders will only be eligible provided they have not qualified to start in any TT solo race on the TT Mountain Course in the last three years and have not won a silver replica in any TT solo race on the TT Mountain Course in the last six years. The Manx Grand Prix offers visitors a truly amazing Motorsport spectacle which is similar to the TT Festival but contains certain alternatives not to be missed!
