Private Fisheries

A reservoir licence is needed to fish these

The Hatchery

This is situated at Ballaglass and welcomes visitors during the summer. All the Island's fish are raised here and visitors have a chance to see the rearing pools and feed the fish. Opening hours are 10am - 4pm during the summer and on bank holidays. A preliminary phone call is appreciated in the event of bad weather. Phone 01624 812224.

Angling Clubs

There are two clubs which hold fishing in the Island's streams. Between them they control the lower sections of the rivers Dhoo and Glass and the bottom mile of the Colby River. Their stretches are clearly marked with boards and neither club is able to accommodate visiting anglers.

Stocking

This takes place at regular intervals throughout the season. When and where the streams are stocked is obviously not public knowledge!

On the reservoirs the situation is slightly different. Here a no fishing zone may be introduced for a short period after stocking and it is well signed. Ballure, Cringle, Clypse and Kerrowdhoo are closed briefly but at least 24 hours notice is given via notices posted at each reservoir. In practice angling disruption is kept to a minimum - and another water is only minutes away !

IOM Record Fish

There are certainly large fish to be caught on the Island and to enter the record books these are what you need to better:

  • Rainbow (Reservoir 1998) 16lb 4oz, (River 1985) 8lb 10oz
  • Brown trout (Reservoir 1975) 6lb, (River 1998) 8lb 7oz
  • Sea trout 15lb -(1979)
  • Salmon 17lb 2 1/2 oz-(1993)

If you should land a monster which beats these you need to contact Garry Reid on 01624 843682 to register your catch.
