Day Out Mountain Bike Trail

From the Bungalow head NE on the A18 towards Ramsey. This section of road is unrestricted so vehicles may be traveling very quickly. Do not ride side by side - your principles won't mean a lot if a driver has to avoid you!
As you ride along the road off to your right you have the Laxey valley - on a good day you will easily be able to see Cumbria. The hill ahead of you is North Barrule which is the highest hill over here (the Islands only mountain is Snaefell which is on your left hand side).
As you ride along the road you will pass the Les Graham Memorial which is on your left hand side as you go over Bungalow Bridge (a sweeping right hand bend). This building has a very 'alpine' feel to its design and is used as a marshal’s shelter during the TT period. Les Graham won 8 GPs in his career.

After 1.5 miles of road you will come to the start of the off road section. This is a left turn off the road onto a gravel road.
This road is occasionally closed to motor vehicles to protect the tracks and as such you may see Road Closed signs. If you do please read the closure notice to check that the ban has not been applied to mountain bikes as well.

The first section of track is on gravel but it quickly turns into open moorland. Follow the white posts over the crest of the hill. As you start to come down the other side you need to bare right rather than following the narrow track ahead. After a short descent you will find the Narrowdale Boards. These boards can be slippery so approach them with caution!

As you come to the end of the boards you will note that the area can be quite muddy so be careful how you drop of the boards - it is very easy to lose the front wheel in and go over the bars.

Head off towards the wall to your right. Follow the gulley up to the gate - the ruts in this section make it tricky but it is all ride able. Once through the gate follow the track for about 100 yards and take the left fork (408 915).
This track runs into a nice little downhill section but then leads onto some pretty straight ruts through the heather. Watch out though as there are some pot holes in the ruts hidden by the heather.

At the gate turn left along the pathway
Follow the pathway through the gates. There are a number of gates so if you are in a group it will save you time if one rider opens the gate, lets everyone through and they head onto the next gate whilst the rider catches up, then again drop a rider at the next gate.

When you reach Ohio plantation (393 928) head down the fire road ahead of you; continue down the fire road and out of the plantation. Watch out on this section as there is a gate around the sweeping left hander. It may be closed and stopping is tricky on the loose surface.
At the bottom gate turn right onto the road.

Follow the road until you get to the Humpback bridge and follow the road to the left.

Follow the road through Sulby Claddaghs. At the Stop sign go straight ahead.

Follow this road. Take care at the end of the road as this section of road you turn left on to is another unrestricted section so vehicles may be passing quite quickly (375 942)
Follow the road through Quarry Bends (368 940) until you reach the Curraghs Wildlife Park where you need to cross the road with care and on to the disused train tracks.

Follow the train tracks; please take care as there is a road crossing about half a mile after the park. From the track it is difficult to distinguish the road as it just looks like another farm track
Cross the road with Care.

Follow the train tracks through Ballaugh Train Station
Turn left at the road (347 935).

Follow the road past the shop and turn right with care onto the TT course. Follow the TT course for about 1/2 a mile and turn left (343 932) Here the climb starts!

You are now on the first major climb of the End to End course the dreaded Ballabcob!

This climb winds its way over to the Brandywell Road B10. There are a couple of descents which should be taken carefully as there are ruts and rain bars across the track.

At the road junction (342 866) turn left and follow the B10 to the mountain road. At the mountain road (390 857) turn left you will be glad to hear it is all downhill back to the tram station at Snaefell
