Quality Standards

The Isle of Man operates compulsory registration and grading of all tourist premises under the Tourist Act 1975.

There are five levels of quality rating from one to five Stars. The Isle of Man Star Rating Standards are harmonised with those operated by Visit Britain, Visit Scotland, Wales Tourist Board, Visit Guernsey, Visit Jersey, and the AA (Hotels and Guest Accommodation).

Holiday hostels receive a Listed Classification and Grading, while campsites have a Listed or 1 – 5 Key Classification and Grading and have to meet minimum standard criteria.

A number of guest accommodation and self catering establishments have now been awarded Gold and Silver accolades which reflect the highest standards of quality, hospitality and services.

Properties are given the Awards by independent quality assessors in recognition of exceptional quality within a property's star rating, or for outperforming a star rating. Look out for the logo on our accommodation search page.

For many of us, a good breakfast is an important part of our holiday experience. The Breakfast Award is presented to those properties achieving exceptionally high scores for the quality of the breakfast they serve. Look out for the Breakfast Award logo when deciding where to stay for the best breakfasts the Island has to offer.
